The Stelmi process easily meets the most severe environmental control
requirements. The conventional plating processes used by our competitors
require massive, complex and expensive control equipment and offer
limited security.
- Water and air discharges
- Stelmi's chromium baths are closed loop relative to wastewater which
eliminates the need for special discharge permits. The plating machines
work slightly under the atmospheric pressure and vent directly to our air control systems.
- Solid wastes
- The only wastes resulting from the process is the mud generated from
the physical and chemical treatment of the water. Its volume is reduced to
about 5% of those generated treating the waters of an equivalent conventional
plating plant.
- Chromium bath volume
- Stelmi's continuous chromium plating technology uses no "pits" or below
grade tanks. The process requires a bath volume which is one tenth of what
is required for conventional plating equipment offering the same production
capacity.
- Chrome overlay
- Continuous and automatic monitoring of the characteristics of the chromium
bath, coupled with the smaller scale of the bath, guarantees a chromium layer
that is completely homogeneous.
- Less power installed
- The Stelmi process helps to save energy. Due to the smaller plating baths
and the use of anodes that conform to the shape of the bar, the Stelmi process
demands one third less electrical power than conventional plating.
